"Black Messiah is a hell of a name for an album. It can be easily misunderstood. Many will think it’s about religion. Some will jump to the conclusion that I'm calling myself a Black Messiah. For me the title is about all of us. It's about the world. It's about an idea we can all aspire to. We should all aspire to be a Black Messiah. It’s about people rising up in Ferguson and in Egypt and in Occupy Wall Street and everyplace where a community has had enough and decides to make change happen. It's not about praising one charismatic leader but celebrating thousands of them. Not every song on this album is politically charged (though many are) but calling this album Black Messiah creates a landscape where these songs can live to the fullest. Black Messiah is not one man. It's a feeling that, collectively, we are all that leader."

Michael Eugene Archer, alias D'Angelo, a enfin mis la touche finale à son troisième album... près de 15 ans après le précédent, le légendaire Voodoo.
Annoncé et attendu depuis plusieurs années, et en partie dévoilé sur scène par l'intéressé sur ces dernières dates, Black Messiah est sorti ce lundi dans la surprise et dans l'enthousiasme général, salué par ses pairs sur les réseaux sociaux (Questlove, Pharrell, Erykah Badu, Justin Timberlake, Mark Ronson, Common, Q-Tip...) et adopté par le public, arrivant immédiatement #1 sur iTunes dans 26 pays.
Black Messiah, enregistré avec The Vanguard, le groupe de scène du chanteur, contient 12 titres, parmi lesquels Ain't that easy, Sugah Daddy, The Charade ou Really Love.
On reconnait sur l’album le groove lascif et reconnaissable entre mille de cet artiste, revendiquant les références à Prince, Sly Stone ou encore Joni Mitchell. Sa tournée européenne passera par le Palais des Congrès, à Paris, le 16 février prochain.
